Equity Bank Appoints Gerald Warui as New Managing Director

On August 6, 2019, Equity Bank Kenya announced the appointment of Gerald Warui as its new Managing Director, succeeding Polycarp Igathe, who is set to join Vivo Energy at the end of August.

Warui, a veteran banker with over 30 years of experience, has been with the bank for 21 years. He holds an MBA from JKUAT and an Advanced Management Program certificate from IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain.

As the bank's new Managing Director, Warui will lead the Kenyan arm of the regional lender. He will be the fourth Managing Director at Equity Bank Kenya since the lender began operating 35 years ago.

Equity Bank prides itself in developing leaders, and in a statement, the bank noted, “Equity Bank places a premium in developing strong, broad-based management talent. Over the last five years, the financial industry has benefited significantly from this pool and many of the team members hold senior roles in leading companies across Africa.”
