On August 6, 2019, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha reaffirmed the government's commitment to providing an enabling environment for vulnerable populations as the Competency Based Curriculum takes root.
Speaking during a pre-conference on expanding inclusion of special needs education, Prof. Magoha emphasized the government's efforts to train more special needs teachers and provide materials for special needs learners.
As education stakeholders continue to assess the progress of the competency-based curriculum, concerns over efforts to achieve inclusive education persist.
Kenya Institute of Special Education chairperson Dr. John Mugo proposed that all teachers should receive training on inclusive education.
Prof. Magoha challenged teachers to identify talents among special needs groups in line with the new curriculum, indicating that the government will provide the necessary resources.
The pre-conference aimed to identify areas of interest during the rollout of the new curriculum ahead of the National conference scheduled for August 16th.
