On August 6, 2019, a tragic incident shook the community in Naivasha, Nakuru County, when a 40-year-old woman, Purity Muthoni, ended her life after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Muthoni had been undergoing treatment in various hospitals after developing a growth on one of her breasts, but doctors were yet to discover she had cancer. It was only after she traveled to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in Nairobi that she received the devastating diagnosis.
According to Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru, Muthoni's body was moved to Naivasha Hospital Mortuary after she hanged herself with a rope in her home in Kasarani Estate, Naivasha.
“According to the sister, the deceased received results that she was suffering from breast cancer and she went into depression before committing suicide,” Waweru said.
A neighbor, Joyce Wangui, revealed that Muthoni had confided in her friends about her fears of experiencing the kind of pain cancer patients go through.
