On August 5, 2019, the prosecution in the Ksh.588 million corruption case against Governor Ferdinand Waititu made a submission in court.
Prosecutor Alexander Muteti recommended that Waititu's salary be slashed to half, citing the gravity of the charges against the embattled Kiambu county boss.
Waititu had moved to court to protest an earlier directive barring him from accessing his office and resuming his official duties.
He was released on Ksh 15 million cash bail and Ksh 30 million bond after spending three nights at Industrial Area Prison.
Waititu's lawyer, Tom Ojienda, termed the bail charges as excessive and not in accordance with the bail terms.
Ojienda also faulted the ruling by High Court Judge Mumbi Ngugi directing that governors should step aside once charged with criminal offenses and their roles taken over by their deputies for the duration of the trial.
Waititu defied court orders by inspecting various projects within Kiambu county on Saturday, accompanied by a lean entourage.
