On July 27, 2019, a distress call led two police officers, Constable Samson Morongo and Constable Stephen Mkangi, to respond to a situation at Wilson Airport in Nairobi. However, the incident that unfolded was far from what they expected.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Constable Morongo shot and killed his colleague, Constable Mkangi, before falsifying a report to cover up the crime.

"The DCI have ruled that theory out and proved that it was a homicide," said DCI director George Kinoti in a statement.

Initially, the report suggested that the two officers were attacked by unknown gunmen in camouflage police uniform, who snatched their AK47 Rifles and shot Constable Mkangi. However, forensic investigations by the DCI revealed that the incident was staged by Constable Morongo.

"After killing his colleague, PC Morongo went ahead to make a report that they had been attacked by unknown people who killed his colleague and took their firearms," the DCI statement revealed.

Further analysis of the suspect's clothes at the Government Chemist revealed gunshot residue, placing Constable Morongo in close proximity to the scene of the crime.
