On August 5, 2019, the family of the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth announced that they would not be conducting any Luo traditional rituals as earlier proposed by a section of elders.
Instead, the family will conduct a prayer service at Okoth's maternal home at Ogenga village in Kabondo Kasipul, Homa Bay County, at a date to be announced soon.
According to National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadi, the family had earlier been divided on how to dispose of Okoth's body, with some members advocating for burial and others for cremation.
However, after a closed-door meeting with other family members, the differences were reconciled, and the family has now resolved to focus on the way forward.
"Whatever happened is now water under the bridge. The family is now focused on the way forward," Mr Mbadi said.
Mr Mbadi also revealed that the family had initially planned to hire a chopper at Sh590,000 to take Okoth's body to Got Rateng' in Kabondo Kasipul, but this plan was scrapped due to the differing opinions on the send-off style.
