Published on August 5, 2019, the ITF World Women’s Tour kicked off at Peponi School in Ruiru, Kenya, with Faith Nyabera and Judith Nkatha leading the charge for Kenya.
At 19 years old, Nyabera will face off against Vibhasree Gowda from India in the first round at 9am, while Nkatha, 20, will take on Manuella Maria Nyonda from Gabon in a duel starting at 10am.
Kenya's top-ranked player Angela Okutoyi, 15, and Fatiya Shariff, 15, will compete on Wednesday in their first-round matches.
Okutoyi will face Demi Tran from the Netherlands, while Shariff will meet Brazilian Borges Galvao in the main draw featuring 32 players.
Team Kenya coach Peter Wachira has warned against complacency, emphasizing the need for hard work against a strong field of top players.
Okutoyi expressed her optimism, saying, "I will appreciate any outcome since we are coming up against players who are exposed and always on a world tour."
She also highlighted her achievements in the last year, including winning the Kenyan Open and two ITF Junior Circuit events.
