Equity Bank Appoints Gerald Warui as New Managing Director

Published on August 5, 2019, Equity Bank Kenya has appointed Gerald Warui as its new Managing Director, replacing Polycarp Igathe who has resigned to join Vivo.

Warui, a seasoned banking professional with over 30 years of experience, will take over the reins at the end of August. He has served Equity Bank for 21 years and has held various leadership positions within the group, including Director of Operations and Customer Service.

Warui holds an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He is also a graduate of the Advanced Management Program offered by IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain.

The appointment of Warui is subject to approval by the Central Bank of Kenya. In a statement, the Board thanked Igathe for his dedicated service and wished him well in his new role with Vivo, one of Equity's valued partners.
