On August 1, 2019, a farmer in Nyandarua County reported to the police that his seven sheep had been stolen. The police laid a trap at an abattoir in Ol Kalou town and arrested James Ng'ang'a Mwangi, the proprietor of Kirinyaga butcheries, who was found transporting the stolen animals in a pick-up.
Ng'ang'a Mwangi denied the charges of stealing the seven sheep when he appeared before Resident Magistrate Cynthia Muhoro in a Nyahururu court. He was released on Sh100,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount or Sh50,000 cash bail.
The case will be heard on October 22, this year. The court heard that Ng'ang'a Mwangi had escaped on foot when he saw the police officers and abandoned the animals together with the vehicle, but was later arrested in Ol Kalou town and taken to Ol Kalou police station.
