On August 5, 2019, Equity Bank Group announced the appointment of Gerald Warui as its new managing director, marking a significant leadership change within the institution.
Warui, a long-serving director with 21 years of experience at the bank, will take over from Polycarp Igathe, who has resigned after an eight-month tenure as managing director.
According to a statement from the bank, Igathe will hand over his duties to Warui before his departure at the end of August, ensuring a smooth transition of operations.
Warui has served the bank group in various capacities, including as director of operations and customer service. He will now lead the bank as its fourth managing director in its 35-year history.
Meanwhile, Igathe will be rejoining his previous employer, Vivo, as executive vice president of sales and marketing for Africa, a newly created position.
