Formula One drivers and fans are eagerly anticipating more thrilling battles between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen after their gripping duel in the Hungarian Grand Prix on August 4, 2019.
Hamilton, who secured his record-extending seventh win in Hungary, praised Verstappen for his exceptional driving skills, saying, "There really is no better feeling from a racing driver's point of view - when you have a race like this and face a really strong competitor and a great driver like Max."
Hamilton's Mercedes team chief, Toto Wolff, also commended the Briton's driving, stating, "Lewis's driving was of a different dimension. At first, it did not seem possible but as soon as Lewis sniffed the position there was no holding back. It was an unbelievable drive."
Verstappen's impressive performance, which included his first-ever pole and second-place finish, has sparked speculation that he and Hamilton might join the same team in the future. However, Red Bull's mid-season improvement may render this scenario unnecessary and undesirable.
Hamilton expressed his hope for more battles with Verstappen, saying, "I really, really hope we have more battles like that." He also acknowledged the respect that exists between them, despite their 13-year age gap, and praised Verstappen's maturing driving style, saying, "Max is at his best and is continuing to perform great."
