On August 5, 2019, a group of Community Health Volunteers from Mathare, Nairobi, gathered at Chatter hall to express their grievances against the Nairobi County government.

Priscilla Esther, a volunteer from Mathare Kosovo Unit, spoke on behalf of the group, stating that they have dedicated over ten years to their work without receiving any payment.

According to Esther, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko had promised the volunteers a monthly stipend of Ksh. 8,000, but this promise has never been fulfilled.

Instead, only a select few were given Ksh. 3,000, while the majority were left without any compensation.

The Community Health Volunteers provide essential primary health care and promotional services to the community, but the lack of payment has become a significant challenge for them.
