Published on August 5, 2019, the ODM Party has intensified its opposition to Ekuru Aukot's Punguza Mzigo bill, labeling it as anti-devolution.
Homa Bay County Senator Moses Kajwang has come out strongly against the bill, warning that it would kill devolution and disenfranchise Kenyans.
The bill, proposed by Ekuru Aukot's Thirdway Alliance Party, aims to reduce the country's wage bill through radical cutbacks, including the creation of a lean Parliament.
However, the ODM Party, led by Raila Odinga, is urging Kenyans to wait for the recommendations of the Building Bridges Initiative, which they believe will produce a more popular constitutional amendment proposal.
Women leaders have also expressed opposition to Aukot's proposal to scrap the position of the County Woman Representative.
Other critics of the bill include Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi, who argues that it does not address wastage of public resources through corruption.
