Published on August 5, 2019, Harambee Stars coach Sebastien Migne has issued a bold challenge to Football Kenya Federation (FKF), daring them to sack him.
However, in the same breath, Migne expressed doubts about whether FKF president Nick Mwendwa can afford the consequences of laying him off.
The French coach made these remarks after Kenya's disappointing exit from the 2020 Africa Nations Championship (Chan) qualifiers at the first hurdle.
Kenya was eliminated from the tournament, which excludes players competing in their local league, after losing 4-1 to Tanzania on post-match penalties at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Before the penalties, the two teams had settled for scoreless draws in regulation time of both legs played at Kasarani and the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Addressing journalists after the match, Migne linked Kenya's defeat to Tanzania to the standards of football in the country and region.
He also questioned whether FKF could afford to pay his salary, saying, "If the federation wants to fire me, let them fire me but again if paying my salary is an issue, will they manage to pay out my contract?"
Migne signed a three-year deal in May 2018, which binds him to qualify the senior national team for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
