On August 4, 2019, Ugandan singer Michael Kalinda, popularly known as Ziggy Wine, succumbed to injuries sustained after a kidnapping incident.

He was signed under Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi's recording studio and had been a prominent figure in the Ugandan music scene.

Confirming the sad news on his social media page, Bobby Wine revealed that Ziggy Wine died at Mulango Referral Hospital.

"Our friend Ziggy Wine could not make it. He passed on last night - succumbing to injuries sustained after a horrendous encounter with kidnap & torture. Very painful! He joins other countless Ugandans. As we mourn him, we resolve to work even harder to end this. Rest well brother," Bobby Wine wrote.

According to reports, Ziggy Wine was kidnapped and beaten by unidentified men who left him for dead. He was later found and taken to Mulango Referral Hospital, where he spent more than a week without proper treatment and food.
