On March 9, 2018, NASA supporters were left disappointed by the Odinga-Kenyatta handshake, which seemed to undermine their efforts to address historical injustices. However, this development does not mean all is lost for marginalized communities.
Despite the handshake, NASA's goals of giving marginalized communities a voice and redistributing public resources remain unfulfilled. To achieve meaningful development, NASA supporters must participate actively in their governance and demand accountability from their county governments.
Devolution, which was a key aspect of NASA's agenda, is still a relevant tool for marginalized communities. By channeling their energy towards keeping county governments accountable, they can ensure that funds are used for verifiable development projects.
County governors and officers must also take a conscientious decision to prioritize the needs of their people over personal interests. Instead of creating village millionaires, they should strive to create millionaire villages through multi-million projects that benefit the community as a whole.
