Published on August 5, 2019, Kenya's national volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, faced a tough challenge in their quest to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. They lost 3-0 to Belgium in the Inter-continental Olympic qualifiers held in Catania, Italy.

The team, coached by Shaileen Ramdoo, struggled to keep up with the Belgian team, losing the match in sets of 25-15, 25-14, and 25-7. This loss left them at the bottom of group 'F'.

Although their hopes of qualifying for the Olympics through the Inter-continental qualifiers have been dashed, Malkia Strikers will have another chance to qualify when they participate in the continental qualifiers in January next year. In these qualifiers, all African countries will compete for one slot to the Olympics.

Italy emerged victorious in the Inter-continental Cup, defeating Netherlands 3-0 in the final match and securing their spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
