On August 3, 2019, Ken Okoth, the late Kibra MP, was cremated at the Kariokor Crematorium in Nairobi, in the presence of his immediate family.
The cremation followed a consent signed by Monica Okoth, Ken's wife, and Anne Thumbi, his lover, which resolved the long-standing impasse over the legislator's burial.
As part of the agreement, a DNA test was to be conducted to confirm the paternity of Anne Thumbi's son.
Ken's family had been pushing for cremation, while his mother, Anjeline Ajwang', and elder brother wanted him buried at their home in Kasewe, Kabondo Kasipul.
Edwin Sifuna, the family's lawyer, confirmed that the cremation began at 9am, with only the immediate family in attendance.
"Anne's lawyer said they would not attend, and it was only the immediate family. The event has been finished, and I have already left the place," Sifuna said.
The ODM Party tweeted, "Hon. Okoth's remains have been cremated this morning in accordance with his wishes and in the presence of his family. May his soul Rest In Peace."
However, Ken's nephew, Evan Oluoch, told Citizen TV that the MP's mother was not involved in the cremation, as she wanted to bury her son at their family home in Kasipul Kabondo, in Homa Bay county.
