On Monday, Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha outlined the government's plans to improve inclusive education in Kenya. Speaking at the Kenya Institute of Special Education, he emphasized the importance of proper assessment and placement of children with special needs.
Prof. Magoha stated that the government will hire more teachers and provide refresher courses for those already teaching children with special needs. He also praised the Kenya Institute of Special Education for its sterling work in promoting inclusive education.
"I want to assure you that teachers will be trained to handle children with special needs," Prof. Magoha said.
The Education CS noted that the government will improve the infrastructure at the institute to ensure children with special needs have access to quality education. He also emphasized the importance of parents providing love and guidance to their children with disabilities.
Prof. Magoha's comments came ahead of the 3rd National Conference on Curriculum Reforms, which will feature a series of pre-conference policy dialogues.
Prof. Magoha also emphasized the importance of treating children with disabilities with dignity and respect. "In life God creates us all equal in His image. We are all the same and you can take that to the bank. Children with any form of disability should not be subjected to any form of discrimination," he said.
