Published on August 5, 2019, Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa has been at the center of controversy after publicly supporting Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
Her stance, which was seen as a betrayal of ODM leader Raila Odinga, led to her expulsion from the party by the ODM National Governing Council.
However, Majority leader and Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has come to her defense, accusing the party of hypocrisy.
“Hon.Aisha Jumwa is a victim of political extremism&banditry. Even in the days of Baba na Mama the President never demanded to be worshipped in the manner that the ODM dictator is demanding of party members.Thank God for our judicial order because Hon.Aisha is going nowhere” -Kipchumba Murkomen
Murkomen claims that the party is trying to silence the voice of the marginalized, labeling it as a sign of disloyalty.
Interestingly, her counterpart Suleiman Dori was spared the wrath of the ODM council after he apologized for his rebellion.
ODM's decision to expel Aisha Jumwa has sparked a heated debate, with many questioning the party's leadership.
