Phillip Cocu, the newly appointed manager of Derby County, has shared his thoughts on his previous managing stints, winning philosophy, and plans for the team in an interview with Sky Sports.
With an impressive football resume that includes eight league titles as a player and manager, 101 caps for the Netherlands, and approximately 300 appearances for Barcelona, Cocu is a winner at heart.
"I am a winner," Cocu told Sky Sports. "I really like to win. If I lose, you will see a different person in front of you."
"I am a winner," the Derby manager told Sky Sports in an interview after being announced for the first time. Cocu's managerial experience includes a stint at PSV Eindhoven, where he won three Eredivisie league titles, and a brief but tumultuous spell at Fenerbahce in the Turkish Super Lig. As he begins his new role at Derby County, Cocu is aware of the challenges that lie ahead, but he is confident in his ability to inspire the team to promotion. "We can use the experiences they have of the play-off games positively. The goal of the club is to get to the Premier League but you never know when the moment will arrive to try and achieve that," Cocu said. With a long season ahead, Cocu is focused on making a good start and building momentum for the team. "It's a long season, though, and first we need to focus on a good start," he added.
