On August 5, 2019, singer Akothee launched the Akothee Foundation in Turkana, a county that had been severely affected by drought.
The foundation aims to provide long-term solutions to the hunger and poverty-stricken communities in the county and its surrounding areas.
Just months prior, Akothee had visited Turkana to donate food to the starving people, an effort that raised over Sh 1 million in just two hours.
"The grand opening of Akothee Foundation TURKANA branch," Akothee announced on her social media pages.
Her visit in March 2019 had highlighted the dire need for food aid in the county, with over one million Kenyans reported to be in dire need of assistance.
As part of her efforts, Akothee had spearheaded a fundraising campaign for the drought-stricken people in Turkana, which was joined by fellow celebrities.
