On August 4, 2019, Barcelona announced the signing of Spanish left back Junior Firpo from Real Betis on a five-year deal for an initial transfer fee of €18 million (approximately £16.4 million).
Firpo, 22, is Barcelona's fourth recruit of the close season, following the signings of forward Antoine Griezmann, midfielder Frenkie De Jong, and goalkeeper Neto.
According to Barcelona, the transfer agreement includes a variable component of €12 million, in addition to the initial €18 million fee.
Junior Firpo played 24 times in La Liga last season, scoring three goals and providing four assists as Real Betis finished 10th in the league.
Barcelona will begin their league title defence on August 16, when they travel to Athletic Bilbao.
FC Barcelona and Real Betis have reached an agreement for the transfer of Junior Firpo, with the player signing a contract with Barcelona until June 30, 2024, featuring a termination clause of €200 million.
