Published on August 5, 2019, a fire ravaged Mathai Supermarket in Ruiru, Kiambu County, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
The inferno, which started at around 2.30am on Sunday night, reduced a majority of the goods in the supermarket to ashes.
Confirming the incident, Ruiru DCIO Cyrus Ombati stated that efforts to put out the fire were hampered by a water shortage in Ruiru.
Residents had to wait for fire engines from Thika, Kiambu, and Nairobi to arrive, further exacerbating the situation.
Investigations into the fire incident are ongoing, with the cause of the fire yet to be established.
