Published on August 5, 2019, a devastating mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio, claimed the lives of nine people, including 22-year-old Megan K. Betts, the sister of the shooter, Connor Betts.
Connor Betts, 24, arrived in the entertainment district with his sister and another companion on Saturday evening. He then split from the group before opening fire, leaving 27 others injured.
As the nation struggled to come to terms with the violence, Reverend Dr. Leonard Hamlin Sr. at the National Cathedral in Washington urged Americans to look within and seek transformation.
"Our real challenge is to look within," he said. "If you are honest this morning, all of us need to be transformed a little bit more."
Residents in Cambridge, Massachusetts, expressed disappointment and frustration with the lack of meaningful policy changes following such tragedies.
