On Monday, the ITF World Women's Tour got underway at Peponi School, with 35 players from 15 countries participating in the championship. The event has attracted a strong lineup, including Kenya's top-ranked players.
Angela Okutoyi, Faith Nyabera, and Judith Nkatha, Kenya's top-ranked players, have been granted byes to the main draw, which features 24 players. The main draw will be determined at the end of the qualifying round, which will see 11 players battling for the eight available slots.
Among the players facing off in the qualifying round are Shania Gadhia, Roselida Asumwa, and Alicia Owegi, all from Kenya. The qualifying round will take place on the same day as the main draw, with the main draw commencing on Tuesday.
ITF supervisor Patrick Kamuhia expressed confidence in the event's preparations, despite several withdrawals from Russia, Nigeria, Poland, the United Kingdom, the USA, and Venezuela. 'We are ready for the event,' Kamuhia said.
On Tuesday, Owegi will face Julia Konishi Camargo Silva from Brazil at 11am, while Asumwa will take on India's Prasad Deeka Manju at 2pm. Gadhia will also face an Indian player, Vibhasree Gowda, at 2pm.
