Ugandan Musician Ziggy Wine Dies After Being Assaulted ¶
On July 21, Ziggy Wine, a member of the Firebase Crew, was abducted by unknown individuals while on his way to record music in the Kamwokya area of Kampala.
He was later found unconscious at Mulago Hospital and died on August 4.
According to James Mubiru, who worked with Ziggy Wine, the musician's condition was critical, and he had suffered severe injuries, including a broken left eye socket and severed limbs.
"It's hard to believe that my brother, friend, and colleague in the struggle has passed away," Mubiru said on August 5.
On August 1, Bobi Wine, the leader of the Firebase Crew, had spoken about Ziggy Wine's condition, saying that he had seen his friend and described his condition as critical.
"My friend and fellow musician (Ziggy Wine) was abducted a week ago, brutally assaulted, his left eye socket broken, his two arms severed, and everything taken from him, and he was left for dead at Mulago Hospital," Bobi Wine said.
Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango had earlier stated that the family of the musician had not filed any complaints, but they were investigating the incident.
Onyango said, "We will investigate to see if indeed he was abducted. We will also wait for him to recover and take a statement from him to understand what he went through and who assaulted him."
