Published on August 5, 2019, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has joined the growing list of leaders opposing Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
Speaking at a fundraiser in Nyamira County, Governor Mutua declared his support for a rotational presidency, stating that leaders from other communities should be given a chance to lead the country.
He named Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i as potential future presidents, citing the need for a more inclusive leadership.
At the event, attended by top Kisii leaders including Senator Sam Ongeri and Nyamira Governor John Nyangarama, Governor Mutua emphasized the importance of supporting leaders from minority communities.
He also called on politicians from Mt Kenya and Rift Valley to tone down their 2022 succession politics and instead support leaders from other communities for presidency.
Senator Ongeri, in his remarks, condemned politicians opposed to the Building Bridges Initiative and the fight against corruption, labeling them enemies of the country.
