Deputy Governor Hillary Barchok is set to take over as the Governor of Bomet County following the death of Governor Joyce Laboso. Barchok will be sworn in on Thursday, August 8, 2019, at the Bomet Green Stadium.
Senator Christopher Langat has expressed support for Barchok, stating that leaders will support him and ensure that Laboso's vision for Bomet is realized. 'We know you are up to the task, our role will be to show support and ensure you get that ample time to develop the county,' Langat said.
Several Members of Parliament (MPs) have also pledged their support for Barchok, including Dominic Koskei (Sotik), Gideon Koskei (Chepalungu), Brighton Yegon (Konoin), Beatrice Kones (Bomet East), and Ronald Tonui (Bomet central). The MPs have committed to backing Barchok to serve the remaining term as governor and to actualize the Sh20 billion Bosta water project, which was one of Laboso's main agendas.
The County Assembly Speaker, Shadrack Rotich, and the leader of Majority, Josphat Kirui, have also pledged their support for the new governor, stating that they will work to ensure that Laboso's development plans are implemented.
