Published on August 5, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and Suba MP Millie Odhiambo have been at the center of a heated online exchange.
It all started when Sonko called on women who have children with politicians who do not take care of their obligations to come forward, even sharing his phone number for them to expose the deadbeat fathers.
Isaac Mwaura responded to Sonko's statement, saying it was a low move to gain 'bonga points' and questioning how many children Sonko might have out of wedlock.
Sonko responded to Mwaura's comments, saying that speaking the truth was not about gaining 'bonga points' and that he was speaking out for the voiceless women in the country, including orphans, widows, and single mothers.
Millie Odhiambo hit back at Sonko, accusing him of being a bully and lecturing him on his role to protect all children, whether born in or out of wedlock.
Odhiambo also took issue with Sonko's comments at Ken Okoth's funeral, saying that he was not an instrument that conferred legal rights and that proper rights to inheritance were contained in Acts of Parliament or by courts in case of dispute.
She also pointed out that she had pushed for Article 53 of the Constitution, which protects children like Ken Okoth's son, and that she had expertise in both law and child rights.
Odhiambo also founded a child rights organization that has taken many parents, including deadbeat fathers, to court to force them to take care of their children.
She ended her response by saying that Sonko's obsession with demeaning women sexually was a sign of a 'coma or a fullstop' where it mattered, and that real men had 'BOLDED EXCLAMATION MARKS' in support of women.
