On Friday, a tragic incident unfolded at Suna Raha village in Suna West, Migori County, where a 30-year-old woman, Faith Akinyi, allegedly poisoned her three-year-old daughter and attempted to commit suicide using the same poisonous concoction.

According to reports, the incident occurred at around 11 pm, and the woman was rushed to Akidiva hospital by family members who were in the house during the incident. Unfortunately, the three-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

Police recovered a suicide note in which the woman blamed her husband, Elly, for neglecting the family. Family members revealed that Ms Akinyi has been struggling with mental health issues, including depression, and had previously attempted to take her own life in March of this year.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned today to face infanticide charges.

Police in Migori have arrested the woman, who is said to be mentally ill, and is currently being held at an undisclosed location.
