Justice Jackton Ojwang Cleared of Misconduct Charges ¶
On August 4, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta received a report from a tribunal investigating Justice Jackton Boma Ojwang, the Chief Justice of Kenya.
The tribunal, established by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on March 19, 2019, had been investigating allegations of misconduct against Justice Ojwang.
After reviewing the evidence presented by 25 witnesses, the tribunal concluded that the allegations against Justice Ojwang were unfounded and that he should be cleared of all charges.
President Kenyatta welcomed the report and praised the tribunal for its thorough investigation.
"I have received and reviewed the report of the tribunal investigating the allegations against Justice Jackton B. Ojwang," President Kenyatta said. "I commend the tribunal for its thorough and impartial investigation. The report has found that Justice Ojwang has no case to answer and that he should be cleared of all charges."
Justice Alnashir Visram, the chairman of the tribunal, also praised President Kenyatta for ensuring that the tribunal had all the resources it needed to conduct its investigation.
The tribunal's report was presented to President Kenyatta on August 4, 2019, at State House in Nairobi.
Other members of the tribunal included Lucy Kambuni, Justice (Retired) Festus Azangalala, Ambrose Weda, Andrew Bahati Mwamuye, Sylvia Muchiri, and Amina Abdalla.
Paul Nyamodi, the lead counsel, and Peter Kariuki, the secretary, were also part of the tribunal.
