On August 4, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko made headlines after allegedly forcing a chef and a manager at a Nakuru hotel to taste his breakfast before he could eat it.

According to eyewitnesses, Sonko ordered breakfast after spending the night at the four-star hotel, which was temporarily disrupted by his massive motorcade.

"The hotel chef and manager had to take two mouthfuls in front of him before to confirm the food was safe," a hotel customer told The Standard.

Sonko's actions sparked outrage among hotel staff and clients, with one client questioning the use of a mini-fire engine in his convoy, saying, "Why does he have to travel with a fire engine in tow? This man is enjoying life. I hope these are not taxpayers' money."

Despite the controversy, Sonko took to Twitter to promote his visit to Nakuru, where he attended the National Music Festivals and addressed residents.

"A stopover in Nakuru town advocating matters Wanjiku and the Big Four Agenda. We as leaders must always address issues affecting the common mwananchi. Doing so is taking development to the doorsteps of Adhiambo, Wanjiku, Nzioka, Wafula and the less fortunate in the society," Sonko tweeted.
