Published on August 4, 2019, Kenya's national volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, suffered a crushing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Belgium in the ongoing Inter-continental Olympic qualification tournament in Catania, Italy.

The loss saw Kenya finish at the bottom of their group, 'F', with the team's coach, Shaileen Ramdoo, trying out different combinations in the match.

Despite the loss, Kenya's skipper, Mercy Moim, topped the team's scoring charts with eight points, while Noel Murambi and Sharon Chepchumba followed closely with six and three points respectively.

Belgium's Britt Herbots scored a game-high 17 points, while Celine Van Gestel also got double digits with 11 points to her credit.

The result means Malkia Strikers now only have one route to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which is the continental qualifiers slated for January next year where all African countries will battle for one slot.
