On August 4, 2019, a war of words erupted between Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo over the botched funeral of late Kibra MP Ken Okoth in Homa Bay County.

According to Odhiambo, Sonko's loose mouth and drama could have contributed to the decision not to take Okoth's body to Homa Bay for a much-publicised funeral service.

She stated that Sonko's antics and 'loose mouth' spiralled a behind-the-scenes series of events that resulted in Okoth's body not being taken to Kabondo.

Earlier, Sonko had criticised Odhiambo and Jubilee Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura for saying he was wrong to have meddled in Okoth's personal affairs during the memorial service in Nairobi.

Sonko described Odhiambo and Mwaura as people with weird marital lives that lack the moral authority to lecture anyone on matters marriage.

He alleged that he was aware of the romantic relationship between Okoth and nominated MCA, Anne Thumbi, and that they had a five-year-old boy which Okoth was supporting.

However, Odhiambo fired back, stating that Sonko's outburst and the ensuing court battle lit the war of words between the two politicians.

She also accused Sonko of hypocrisy, saying that her actions supported the actions of absentee fathers.

On Saturday, Okoth's body was cremated at Kariokor Crematorium in a private function attended by close family members.
