On August 2, a tragic incident unfolded in Suna Raha village, Suna West, Migori County, where a 30-year-old woman allegedly poisoned her three-year-old daughter using a poisonous concoction.
According to Migori County Police Commander Joseph Nthenge, the suspect, identified as Faith Akinyi, had attempted to commit suicide using the same poisonous concoction and was rushed to Akidiva hospital, where doctors established that she was out of danger.
Police found a suicide note in the suspect's house, in which she blamed her husband, Elly, for neglecting the family.
The woman had poisoned her daughter and consumed the same poison on Friday, August 2, at around 11pm. Family members, who were in the house during the incident, rushed them to Akidiva hospital, but unfortunately, the three-year-old girl died.
Family members claimed that the woman is mentally ill and has been undergoing depression. In March this year, she had attempted to take her own life by ingesting poison but was rescued and treated.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned on Monday to face murder charges.
