Published on August 4, 2019, a fatal road accident occurred at Giacai along Kutus-Kerugoya road in Kirinyaga County, claiming two lives and leaving 11 others seriously injured.
The accident involved a 14-seater matatu under Kukena Sacco and a boda boda heading in the same direction, from Kutus to Kerugoya.
According to Kirinyaga Police Commander Leah Kithei, the boda boda rider was attempting to overtake when the matatu collided with him, resulting in his instant death.
Following the collision, the driver of the matatu lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll several times. Unfortunately, the driver also died on the spot.
The police commander stated that 11 passengers were rushed to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital with serious injuries, while three were taken to ACK Mt Kenya Hospital with minor injuries.
