On August 4, 2019, the Thika Greens Golf Resort played host to the CEO's Golf tournament, a highly anticipated event that drew in a field of 213 golfers.
Among the participants was Samuel Njuguna Njenga, a handicap 14 golfer at Thika Sports Club, who was in his best form and went on to clinch the overall title.
Njenga, who had obtained his handicap in February 2019, parred all the par fives and short holes, making a total of 11 pars and earning an impressive 41 points.
Speaking after his win, Njenga attributed his success to the course's great condition, which motivated him to play well. He also credited his takeoff from the tee and approach shots for doing the magic.
However, it was a close encounter between Njenga and men's winner Jerim Korosso of Thika Barracks Golf Club, who had also carded 41 points. The overall winner was decided on countback.
Finishing second in the men's section was Golf Park's William Oroko, who scored 40 points despite having two double bogeys and three single bogeys.
Nakuru's Margaret Cheptumo took the ladies title with a score of 36 points, two better than Stacy Githinji on 34 points.
The event was well-sponsored, and the organizers expressed gratitude to the sponsors for making it possible. The Kirinyaga Senator, who the event is held in honour of, also encouraged more golfers to take advantage of the club's membership promotion.
