On August 4, 2019, Elvis Otieno Atieno, a 22-year-old third-year Film and Animation student at Multimedia University in Nairobi, made headlines after clinching the top prize of Sh1 million in a recent competition.

Elvis emerged the winner of Got Skillz?, a competition organized by East African Breweries Limited (EABL) for upcoming creatives to design the company's new logo.

His design, which featured barley in the iconography, was selected from 385 submissions and underwent a mentorship at WPP-Scangroup, where he learned from experienced creative designers.

Elvis's winning design will now be refined into a final version, which will become the corporate symbol for East Africa's largest beverage company.

Speaking to Nairobi News, Elvis described how a friend sent him a screenshot of the competition before he sat down and made the first design, which took days.

He said, 'I remember it was the day of submission and I woke up early and decided what I had designed was not it. I made a new one and within hours it was ready and I submitted it.'

Elvis's design won the hearts and minds of the judges because of its memorable independent device, modern welcoming font, clean and simple execution, and adaptability for various uses.
