On October 30th, 2017, a disturbing incident occurred in Samburu Central, where a primary school teacher was arrested and detained at Maralal police station for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old pupil.
The pupil, a class six student, was allegedly lured into the teacher's office where she was defiled several times, resulting in her becoming pregnant.
According to Samburu Central OCPD Abagaro Guyo, the teacher was arrested following a report by the girl's family. Investigations were underway, and the teacher was expected to be arraigned in court on Monday.
"We took the girl to a hospital for tests. We are waiting for the results...we will take him to court on Monday," Guyo told reporters.
The pupil's sister revealed that a female teacher had alerted her to the situation, and upon investigation, the pregnancy test turned positive. The girl then opened up about the alleged abuse, stating that the teacher had been forcefully sleeping with her.
Residents of Samburu expressed concern over the rising cases of defilement and called on the Education ministry to take action against rogue teachers.
