On August 2, 2019, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced that four players had been banned for life for match-fixing in the AFC Cup.
The players, Kursanbek Sheratov from Kyrgyzstan, Vladimir Verevkin and Iliaz Alimov from Kyrgyzstan's FC Alay, and Abduaziz Mahkamov from Tajikistan, were found guilty of manipulating matches in the 2017 and 2018 AFC Cup.
According to the AFC, Kursanbek Sheratov was involved in fixing a match involving his club Dordoi FC in the 2017 AFC Cup and also supported betting activity related to the game.
The AFC said the punishments, handed down by its disciplinary and ethics committee, showed its "zero-tolerance approach" to match-fixing.
Meanwhile, Turkmenistan international Muhadov Suleyman was banned for four years for a doping violation at this year's Asian Cup, the AFC said.
