On August 4, 2019, a mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio, left a trail of devastation, claiming the lives of 9 people and injuring at least 16 others.
First reports of the shooting emerged at approximately 01:00 local time (05:00 GMT), with the incident occurring outside a bar in the Oregon district of the city.
Police swiftly responded to the scene, killing the shooter and taking casualties to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The shooting occurred just hours after a mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, which left at least 20 people dead.
Dayton Police Department confirmed that officers were in the immediate vicinity when the shooting began and were able to respond quickly to put an end to it.
Assistant Police Chief Matt Carper praised the officers' swift action, stating, 'Our people are very well trained for a situation like this.' He added that it was 'very fortunate that the officers were in close proximity.'
As the investigation continues, authorities are still trying to determine the shooter's motivation.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with footage posted on social media showing people running as dozens of gunshots echoed through the streets.
