Former Manchester United and Arsenal forward Robin van Persie has expressed concern over the poor form of Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez, who has struggled since joining the Red Devils in January 2018.

Sanchez has scored just five goals in over 40 appearances for Manchester United, and his poor form has been punctuated with recurring injuries that have seen him fall out of favour with a section of club fans.

With the transfer window coming to a close, it seems unlikely Sanchez will be sold this summer, and will now have to fight for a place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's set-up.

When asked what has gone wrong for the 30-year-old at Old Trafford, Van Persie revealed it is all in the forward's head.

'He doesn’t look very happy to me. He looked happy at Arsenal. He doesn’t look happy now. What I’ve seen and felt over the years is that how you feel mentally, how your life is, has a big influence,' the Dutch legend told Mail Online.

'If you’re happy, you’re 50 per cent fitter, you create more and you enjoy yourself. So he should find a way mentally to change that,' he added.
