On August 4, 2019, Pewin Group signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Afttrade DMCC, a Belarusian firm, to distribute tractors and set up an assembly plant in Kenya. The MoU, funded by Family Bank and the Government of Belarus, aims to bring new technology, exchange programs, and best practices in the agricultural industry to Kenya.
The MoU is in line with the Big 4 Agenda, which aims to boost the agricultural sector in Kenya. Pewin Group's chairman, Peter Kirigua, said, "In support of the Big 4 Agenda, this MoU means that small-scale farmers can now access reasonably priced tractors with the latest technology and also benefit from the skill-set sharing from our friends in Belarus."
Representatives from the Republic of Belarus are in Nairobi attending the Belarus National Exposition at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC). The Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to Kenya, Mr Dmitry Kuptel, lauded the efforts by the private sector to boost bilateral trades.
Family Bank CEO-Designate Rebecca Mbithi emphasized the bank's commitment to creating lasting financial partnerships with customers to drive economic growth in Kenya.
