Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has sparked controversy with a call to action for mothers of children fathered by elected leaders and senior civil servants.

On August 4, 2019, Sonko asked women with secret children of politicians and government officials to contact him, providing a phone number for them to reach out.

He stated that he would help them obtain DNA tests for the children before it's too late.

"In fact, from today, all the great women of this country who know of an MP, Senator, Governor, civil servant, businessman who has fathered a child out of wedlock, send your details," Sonko said.

Sonko's actions at the memorial service for the late Ken Okoth, who had a child born out of wedlock, received both praise and criticism.

Some leaders, including Suba North MP Millie Mabona and Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura, criticized Sonko's actions, with Mwaura accusing him of seeking to gain political points at the funeral.
