El Paso Shooting: Multiple Fatalities at Shopping Center

On August 3, 2019, a shooting at a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas, left multiple people dead and others injured. The incident occurred in a popular commercial district near Cielo Vista Mall, where the store was packed with shoppers.

According to the office of El Paso Mayor Dee Margo, police had confirmed several fatalities, but declined to elaborate on the number and status of the victims. The police had one gunman in custody.

Emergency workers transported 18 wounded people to nearby hospitals, including Del Sol Medical Center and the University Medical Center of El Paso. The hospitals were treating patients with conditions ranging from minor injury to fatal.

Witnesses described the violent scene, with one worker saying he heard shots and saw smoke, and another saying he saw a man on the floor full of blood.

As of Saturday afternoon, much about the shooting remained unclear, including the number of fatalities and the extent of the injuries.
