On Saturday, August 3, 2019, the United States International University (USIU) men's hockey team pulled off a thrilling upset, defeating favourites Wazalendo 1-0 in a Premier League match at City Park Stadium, Nairobi.

Earlier in the day, defending champions Telkom dominated Kenyatta University Titans 7-0 in the women's Premier League, while Amira Sailors forced Strathmore University Scorpions to a 0-0 draw.

USIU's victory marked their second win of the season, improving their tally to 10 points from two wins, four draws, and three losses. The team's coach, Tom Olal, expressed relief at securing the win, saying, 'We squandered many chances but getting the three points is what is important.'

Olal also praised his team's ability to sustain pressure in the final two minutes of the match, adding, 'We scored at the right time when concentration was low and managed to sustain the pressure in the last two minutes.'

Meanwhile, Wazalendo's coach, Fidelis Kimanzi, lamented the team's injuries and depleted bench, saying, 'The results are not what I wanted, but the performance was good considering that I missed most of my key players and those available had minor injuries which affected us.'
