On Saturday, August 3, 2019, the Term Two national school games came to an end in Kisumu, a humid lakeside city. The volleyball final was an epic match that left everyone in awe. Kwanthanze, a team from Machakos, clinched their fourth national volleyball girl's title by defeating Cheptil.
The final match was a gripping five-setter, with Kwanthanze emerging victorious with a score of 26-24, 13-25, 22-25, 25-18, and 15-5. The match was intense, with both teams giving their all. Kwanthanze's head coach, Justine Kigwari, made two crucial changes that turned the game in their favor.
Despite being one set down, Kwanthanze bounced back to win the next two sets. However, Cheptil refused to give up and sent the tie to a decider. In the fifth set, Kwanthanze corrected their mistakes and emerged victorious with a big margin of 15-5 points.
For the second time in three years, Kwanthanze stood between Cheptil's success. The two teams had previously met in the 2017 finals held in Nyeri, where Kwanthanze won 3-0. They also clashed in the semi-finals of the East Africa title in Rwanda last year, with Kwanthanze winning 3-2.
Speaking after the triumph, Kwanthanze's tactician, Kigwari, praised his charges for the feat while shifting focus to the East Africa show.
