On August 3, 2019, a family in Kirinyaga County was left stunned after a hospital allegedly gave a woman only one baby, despite scans indicating she was carrying twins.
35-year-old Judy Wangeci was admitted to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital, where doctors performed a cesarean section and delivered one baby. However, the family claims that the hospital's management has yet to explain why the woman was given only one child.
Speaking to the media, Judy's husband, Laurence Muriithi, insisted that his wife delivered twins, but the hospital's management is yet to provide a satisfactory explanation.
Laurence's mother, Faith Wanjiku, was present at the hospital when the cesarean delivery took place. She claimed that she was shown an X-ray taken of Judy, which indicated that she was carrying twins in her womb.
“I went to the hospital’s Maternity Ward with two pairs of new clothes for my grandchildren only to get a rude shock on being told only one of the twins was delivered,” Faith said.
Police have since opened investigations into the matter, and the family is demanding answers from the hospital's management.
