On August 3, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta attended the burial ceremony of Joyce Laboso at Fort Tenan in Muhoroni, where he praised her husband, Edwin Abonyo, for his unmatched integrity and oratory skills.

The president described Abonyo as a great man and a role model that society should emulate, citing his charisma and courage to stand by Laboso and raise a great family.

Uhuru was particularly impressed by Abonyo's revelation that he never secured a tender from Bomet county government despite being a contractor and his wife being a governor.

"You were the best speaker in Bomet and I told myself that indeed behind every successful woman there was a man. All the things you told us, her humility despite power, her integrity were true," the president said.

He also commended Abonyo for his integrity, saying, "I am impressed that you never took advantage of her job to get government deals and contracts because you also stood for integrity,"

Abonyo's speech during Laboso's memorial mass in Bomet had left the audience in awe, with Uhuru bursting into laughter at his jokes and appreciating his wisdom.

"Let us listen to what Edwin said and Kenya will change, will have peace and respectable country. Let us not be like those who preach water and drink wine," the president said.

Uhuru appreciated Abonyo for being strong and teaching his family on values and morals acceptable in the modern society.
